All four Silver Pines weapons confirmed in the demo, where each one is found, what it opens, and why the axe listing is still unverified.

What weapons can you actually get in the Silver Pines demo?
Four, and they arrive in a deliberate order. The demo hands you a melee weapon almost immediately, makes you live with it for a long time, and then starts drip-feeding firearms in the back half. That pacing is the whole point: the developers have said every encounter should cost you something, whether that is health, ammunition or inventory space.
| Weapon | Type | Where it comes from | What it is good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boxcutter | Melee | Early, in the opening stretch | Cutting tarps, cheap kills, smashing scenery |
| Pistol | Firearm | Late in the demo | A stopgap firearm when the revolver is empty |
| .36 Revolver | Firearm | Eddie’s suite, Crimson Bear Motel | Shooting padlocks, breaking wooden vent grates |
| Shotgun | Firearm | Behind a phone call in Room 3 | Wooden barricades, heavy damage |
Two of those four are easy to walk past, and the shotgun in particular has a reputation for being missed by almost everyone. If you only read one more page after this one, make it the shotgun location guide.
Where do you get the boxcutter in Silver Pines?
It is an early pickup, and by the time you are out of the opening area it is the only offensive option you have. It is also the first tool. Cut tarps are used as soft barriers in the demo, and the boxcutter is what opens them, which is why a player stuck in a loop between the general store and the drop-off point is told to jump the left wall and cut the tarp inside the tunnel.

Because it is a tool as much as a weapon, running out of it is not really an option. It does not break outright, but it loses durability with every swing, and durability is restored only with duct tape. That system is covered in detail on the melee and duct tape page.
How do you get the pistol and the .36 Revolver?
The pistol is described as appearing late in the demo, and it functions as a secondary firearm rather than a headline weapon. The .36 Revolver is the more important find. It is inside Eddie’s suite at the Crimson Bear Motel, and getting into that room is itself a small puzzle with a guest code.

The revolver is the weapon that opens up locked containers. It is also the one with the memorable reload routine, which Finger Guns compared to the skill-check minigame in Dead by Daylight and Shacknews compared to active reload in Gears of War. Full directions, including the ammunition warning about concrete walls and cracked rock faces, are on the revolver location page.
How do you get the Shotgun in Silver Pines?
You dial a phone. That is the entire mechanic, and it is why so many people never find the weapon: the game does not push you toward the phone in Room 3, and the code you need is the kind of number the game expects you to read out of the environment and enter yourself.

The recorded value in one widely shared playthrough is 6671, and it is treated in that video as the number for that specific run. It may be randomised, and the same caution applies to every code in this game. Read the number for your own playthrough rather than assuming any guide’s digits are universal. The developers’ own position is that there is more than one number you can dial and that you have to work it out. The step-by-step version is on the shotgun location page.
Is there an axe in Silver Pines?
Only one source says so. An article about the game’s destruction mechanics mentions smashing doors with a shotgun or an axe.
Official source: 80 Level on Silver Pines destruction
That is the only place an axe appears in any of the material we reviewed. It has never shown up in a preview, a patch note, a store description or a player report. The likely explanations are that it describes an early prototype tool, that the writer used axe as a shorthand for a heavy melee option, or that an axe exists in the full game and simply was not in the demo build being described.
[!warning] The axe is unverified Treat the axe as a single-source claim pending confirmation. Do not plan a run around finding one. If an axe does ship, the reasonable guess is that it behaves like a heavier, slower melee weapon with the same durability and duct tape rules, but that is a guess and not something this page asserts as fact.
How scarce is ammunition in Silver Pines?
Very. IGN’s preview notes that ammunition is hard to find, and that the melee weapon is repaired with duct tape rather than replaced. The store description makes the same point from the other direction: search everywhere, because every bullet, bottle of medicine and upgrade matters.
Money is the pressure valve and the trap at the same time. You can buy ammunition from vending machines, but the same money is what you spend to save your game at a payphone. Buying shells is therefore competing directly with buying safety. The developers have said the full game removes a lot of excess resources and that players should expect to interact with the vending machine more often than they did in the demo, which means the full release will be tighter, not looser.
The practical rule for the demo is to spend bullets on things that change the map, not on enemies you can dodge. Which brings up the most commonly missed mechanic in the game.
Can you shoot padlocks off in Silver Pines?
Yes, and a lot of players never find out. There is a dedicated Steam thread titled around the fact that padlocks can be shot off, and players in other threads admit they assumed a crowbar or bolt cutters would arrive later instead.
Official source: Steam forum thread on padlocks and wooden barriers
The developers answered that thread directly and set the expectations that matter: shooting open padlocks with the revolver and blasting wooden barriers with the shotgun is not something required for progression in the Outskirts. Once you get into town, they said, you will get another, more straightforward method of breaking both that does not require an expensive resource.
That single developer answer should shape how you play the demo. Shooting locks is optional convenience in the opening area, not a gate. If ammunition is tight, you are not locked out of the critical path by skipping every padlock you see.
What can the Shotgun destroy?
Wooden barricades and boarded doors, and only since Demo Patch 2 on June 12, 2026. The developers called the change the patch’s biggest addition and specifically asked players for feedback about how it affected backtracking.
Official source: Silver Pines Steam news and patch notes
This matters for anyone following an older video. If a walkthrough from early June shows a route that is blocked by boards, the player in that video was working before the patch that let you open it. If you are playing the current demo build and the shotgun blows a boarded door apart, that is expected behaviour, not a bug.
The caveats are just as important. The shotgun does not work on everything that looks breakable. Concrete and rock are not affected, and there is no indication anywhere that they ever were meant to be.
Which weapon should you use for what?
| Situation | Best option | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Blocked by a tarp | Boxcutter | It is the only thing that cuts tarps |
| Single humanoid, no audience | Boxcutter, charged attack | Saves ammunition entirely |
| Locked box, cage or gate | .36 Revolver | One shot opens the padlock |
| Wooden vent grate above you | .36 Revolver | Opens a route to a hidden upgrade |
| Boarded door or wooden barricade | Shotgun | Added in Patch 2, opens backtracking routes |
| Concrete wall or cracked rock face | Nothing | Confirmed to be out of reach in the demo |
